MILÀ I FONTANALS INSTITUTE is a public institute of secondary education, in the stages of compulsory school, and postsecondary education offering several specialisations like Art (design, image, music, theater,...),Sciences,Technology, Humanities and Socials. Also the centre has studies of professional training in Futbol.

 

The secondary education is structured in four courses, from 12 until 16 years, legal age to work in Spain.

 

In the school course 2002-03 the centre started with an new resource for students with difficulties in the last grade of secondary education, called MAP CLASSROOM. This approach is based in Productive Learning methods, and belongs to the IDAP program “Productive Learning in Secondary Education”  opened to all public secondary centres of  the city. Milà i Fontanals Insitute was the first public institute of the city which believed in the big possibilities of Productive Learning being the better Productive Learning ambassador inside the Educational Department of the Generalitat de Catalunya. With MAP Classroom the institute intends to give an educational alternative to those students who have failed in the process of scholar adaptation and avoid the risk of social exclusion that academic failure can lead to. On contrari, MAP classroom is adapted to them through an attractive way addressed to get personal development and abilities for life besides the official certification in this stage of the compulsory school as last chance.

 

The program takes place every year from September to June, and the number of students par group is 12, but sometime is 13. In MAP classroom learning activities are based on self-learning and cooperative activities addressed to obtaining products whole described on Individual Training Plans which combines the curriculum, the acquirement of professional knowledge and competences and the practical experiences in firms. Also the intensive use of ICT as a pedagogical tool is an extra motivation. They are also working one hour a day in the frame of communication sessions in group and one hour a week in individual consultation and support.
